Silesia, Pomerania, East Prussia and Sudeten

Splendid Jewish communities existed in the east European provinces of the German empire and their heyday was in the beginning of the 20th century.

More than 300 communities were established in these areas and until their destruction by the Nazi-regime there were 161 communities in East Prussia, 43 in Pomerania und 87 in Sudeten. In most of these communities German was the dominant spoken language. The sermons were given in German, the ashkenazic liturgy was prominent and the German Jewish culture was cultivated.

This culture has not found any memorial until today und so it is the foremost task of our generation to document and preserve the memory of that culture. A memorial–book such as this one would have approximately 800 pages and comprise the already collected material as well as the archival material and interviews with eyewitnesses.

For completion and publication of this important project we still need substantial financial support.
